About

What is this blog about?

This blog is mainly to provide information for people who are interested in learning the skills and methods of historical research, historical study, and who enjoy all facets of historical related events, people, places and things.

The posts are meant to be simple, concise and mainly meant for those either beginning their historical journey or want a refresher or starting points for further research.

This blog is not meant to be an in-depth course or historical skills and methods, rather, simply a tool to to provide information to push you in a positive direction.

Who am I?

My name is Nick, I have a Bachelor of Arts (Cum Laude) in History and I am a life member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society (Nu Lambda chapter).  I am also an amateur genealogist with a focus on research and cemetery studies.

While I love practically every aspect of historical study, I started with the American Civil War and then specialized into the history of that event that took place in Missouri and Kansas prior to, during and after the war.

While I still love studying that period, I have since found equal enjoyment studying Medieval Europe, The Crusades (a very complex and emotional subject) and the strange web of European monarchy (to say every ruler was related is not far off) and the stories that come along with that.

I also have a strong passion for studying and doing genealogical research. This research into my heritage has lead me to further study the histories and peoples of Great Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, The Baltic areas (specifically Poland), Sweden and Denmark. Needless to say there is a plethora of stories, events and peoples in those areas to spend a lifetime researching.

I'll keep my personal details to a minimum. I am married, have two grown and one almost grown children, I work full time as an IT Business Systems Analyst, I served in the United States Army in my younger days, and my passions outside of history and genealogy are music (performing, learning, and yes listening), riding my motorcycle, reading and blogging.

Conclusion

I hope you find this blog interesting. If there is something you would like to have me write about related to the topics of history and genealogy, please leave me a comment.

If you have constructive comments, by all means, leave them at the end of the blog posts. That is the beauty of history, it's not history until it is documented and everyone has their own interpretation of the documentation! So discussion is ALWAYS a good thing in historical research/study!
